Killingworth Republicans Nominate First Selectman Candidate

Local Republicans also selected a slate of candidates to run for office in the 2013 local elections.

The Killingworth Republican Party unanimously nominated Matthew Young, an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, to run for the office of first selectman in the 2013 election season.

On Thursday the Killingworth Republican Town Committee selected both Young and a slate of other candidates who are seeking political office this fall, according to a blog post on The Haddams-Killingworth Patch.

"Mr. Young is the owner of a successful local construction company and a highly regarded member of his church and the community," the post stated. "As an experienced business and civic leader, Mr. Young stated that he has many wonderful ideas he wishes to bring to the town of Killingworth and he enthusiastically accepted the nomination. His wife, Jeannie, is a member of the Board of Education and they have four children."

Democratic First Selectman Catherine Iino has been leading the town for the past four years. She has not stated yet whether she plans to seek a third term.

Here's the rest of the candidates the local Republican party picked for the upcoming elections:

Office of Selectmen:  Fred Dudek and Jeffrey Yazmer
Town Clerk: Deborah Butler
Board of Finance: Shawn O’Connell and David Denvir
Board of Education (4 year term): Derek Phelps
Board of Education (2 year term): Jeannie Young
Board of Assessment Appeals: Daniel Haas
Planning and Zoning: David Gross
Zoning Board of Appeals: Les Riblet
Zoning Board of Appeals (Alt): Nancy Gorski
Fire Commissioner: Michael Butler

Editor's Note: The Killingworth GOP accidentally left Les Riblet, Zoning Board of Appeals candidate, off of this list. The party's spokesman contacted Patch and we have since added Riblet's name to the above story.
