Letter to the Editor: Green Party Candidate Asks for Recognition

Third party candidates have been left out of the candidate list posted on the elections page of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association.

Dear CBIA leaders,

I just saw your election page and there is an error in your candidates list, you have left out third party candidates, including myself, State Senate candidate in the 33rd district running on the Green party line.

I was actually the first back in April, before Senator Eileen Daily made and before Mr. Crawford (D) and Mr. Linares (R) filed their paperwork with the State.

As a small business owner (15 years) and lifelong resident of Connecticut,  I believe we need fairness in political process and reporting.

I am a strong advocate for business in Connecticut and value our history and future in the business world.

Please consider revising your elections page with the correct and complete information.

I have included below the Secretary of State's official list of candidates (along with other election news articles you might have missed).

Unfortunately, the rules to run as a minor party are legislated by the two major parties; therefore, a third party must fight before we even get to the battle.

This difficulty with running as a third party candidate along with being left out of election information is a disservice to all electors throughout the state: especially in the 33rd district where nearly 50% of all voters are registered Unaffiliated and do not want to be associated with one of the major parties.

I think it is a great service that you provide election information to your members; however, for the benefit of your members, no candidate should be overlooked regardless of party affiliation.

Thank you for your consideration,

Melissa Schlag
