Man Threatens To Drive Construction Truck Through Building, Operating With a Suspended License and Speeding

Haddam area police activity reports.

 

The Haddam Resident Troopers' Office and the Connecticut State Police, Troop F in Westbrook report the following incidents:

FAILURE TO NOTIFY DMV OF REGISTRANT'S CHANGE OF ADDRESS, OPERATING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE AND SPEEDING - On Dec. 4 at 12:17 a.m., Samuel Walton, 28, of 60 Montowese Street, Branford was observed by police, traveling at a speed in excess of 70 mph on Route 9 near exit 8 in Haddam. As a result of a motor-vehicle stop, police arrested Walton and charged him with the above. Walton was transported to Troop F, processed and released without incident. He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond, pending a court date of 12/16/11 at Middlesex Superior Court in Middletown.

FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON THE RIGHT - On Dec. 4 at 4:05 a.m., Jeffrey Simmons, 29, of Evergreen Park Road, Clinton was traveling southbound on Route 81 in the area of Brault Hill Road in Haddam. Simmons reportedly fell asleep, drifted off of the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Simmons was transported by Haddam Ambulance to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Police issued Simmons a written warning for failure to drive upon the right.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND SECOND-DEGREE THREATENING - On Dec. 5 at approximately 2:33 p.m., Myles Crete, 43, of Maple Avenue, Higganum reportedly became involved in a verbal dispute with a family member at their place of business on Saybrook Road in Middletown. Police said Crete had threatened to drive a commercial construction truck "through the building" and later became involved in a physical altercation with the relative, according to the report. Middletown Police charged Crete with the above, and he was given a court date of 12/6/11 at Middlesex Superior Court.

MOTOR-VEHICLE vs. UTILITY POLE - On Dec. 7 at 11:54 p.m., Nicholas Neptin, 18, of Wood Cart Lane, Haddam was traveling along Route 9 northbound, in the area of exit 12 in Middletown in a 1999 Mercury Sable. Neptin lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole on the right side of the roadway. Police said that speed was determined to be a factor. No injuries were reported.

IMPROPER TURN - On Dec. 8 at approximately 4:59 p.m., Diane Burke, 45, of Falls-Bashan Road, Moodus was traveling eastbound on West Elm Street (Route 80) in the town of Deep River, in the area of Bahr Road. While attempting to make a turn, Burke's vehicle went off the roadway and into a shallow stream. No injuries were reported. Police issued Burke a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

FAILURE TO DRIVE IN THE ESTABLISHED LANE - On Dec.10 at 12:54 p.m., Joanne Hansen, 63, of Gunger Hill Road, Higganum was parked on the side of the highway on Route 9 northbound near exit 5 in Deep River, in a 2009 Nissan Altima. John Murphy, 75, of Regatta Drive, Niantic was traveling along the highway in a 2005 Mercedes-E, and police say he swerved into the shoulder of the road, side-swiping Hansen's vehicle. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Police issued Murphy an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane.
