Man's Body Recovered from Cedar Lake

The man and a 49-year-old woman were thrown into the water when their canoe capsized Saturday evening.

CHESTER, CT — Authorities recovered the body of a missing Manchester man from Cedar Lake in Chester on Sunday.

According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection the man was recovered around 11:15 a.m., a short distance away from where he and a 49-year-old woman were thrown into the water when their canoe capsized Saturday evening.

The man was identified as Paul Haney, of Manchester. The woman he was with was identified as Carol Bremser, of Chester. Bremser was rescued by people on a passing boat and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Chester First Selectwoman Lauren Gister said bystanders told officials that Bremser was heavily intoxicated at the time of her rescue, NBC Connecticut reported. The NBC report also noted that life jackets were not used.
