The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the subsequent takeover of the country by the Taliban is putting the lives of many people in danger. Afghans who worked for the U.S. government or its allies, Afghans who worked for U.S. companies, Afghans with other connections to the U.S. (such as family), current and former members of the Afghan military, and Afghans who are human rights and/or womenβs rights activists are at great risk of persecution, including kidnapping, torture, and death at the hands of the Taliban. Given the Talibanβs previous views on womenβs rights, women and girls are also in particular danger. Sadly, all Afghans, even those without these connections, are also at risk.

There are programs in place for Afghans to apply for visas to or parole into the United States. Many require sponsorship by individuals or organizations in the U.S. If you know someone who is trying to get out of Afghanistan, or you would like to help support an individual or family who is looking to resettle in Connecticut, please contact Meghann E.
