New Timber Sale Starting On Hubbard Road In Haddam
The trail is temporarily closed for public safety while the logger is working.
August 3, 2020
New timber sale starting on Hubbard Road, Haddam – The sale will salvage primarily dead oaks (that died after the 2016 drought and gypsy moth defoliation) and remove dead trees that are hazardous to hikers along the maroon trail. The trail is temporarily closed for public safety while the logger is working. The harvest also cut black birch and red maple in the mid-story to provide adequate sunlight for new oaks seedlings. This will help keep oaks in the forest for the long term as oaks are not sustaining themselves under current natural conditions. Pitch pine may be seeded in order to add more diversity.
