No One Home When Haddam House Caught Fire

The investigation continues into the cause of a fire at a Candlewood Hill Road home that destroyed the house.

The investigation continues into a morning fire that destroyed a house in Higganum.

Nine fire departments, including Haddam, East Haddam, Haddam Neck, City of Middletown, Middletown South District, Chester, Killingworth, Deep River and Durham, responded to the blaze at a raised ranch on Candlewood Hill Road at around 10:30 a.m.

The home was fully involved upon arrival. No one was at home at the time of the fire. Crews pulled water from a pond at the base of the home’s driveway and dumped into a portable holding tank to supply water to the fire scene. The house and a detached two-car garage were a total loss.

The Haddam Fire Marshal, assisted by the state Fire Marshal’s Office, is investigating the cause.
