The 9th annual event was held Saturday.
With nearly 350 votes cast, it was an extremely close race among the three traditional New England clam chowder recipes, but by a margin of just one vote, the first place “People’s Choice- Best Chowder” silver ladle trophy was awarded to On the Rocks at Fox Hopyard, The East Haddam Economic Development Commission (EDC) announced today.

The restaurant's chowder was made by Chef James Martell. Second place winner was Gelston House and third place, only a few votes behind, was La Vita Gustosa.
Hillside Sweet Shoppe offered “make your own candy chowder,” bringing along 30 pounds of sweet ingredients for the festive crowd. Two stuffed lobster mascots, fishnet, and colorful signs helped the business win the EDC's “Table Décor” prize, best displaying the spirit of the annual community event.

Special thanks go out to all of the chefs and businesses for donating their time and chowder. Also thank you to all the community attendees for their donations to support local causes. The EDC will decide which charities and non-profit organizations will receive the approximately $1,000 in proceeds at their April 5th meeting.
