Organization Calls For Killingworth Property Preservation
Save the Sound is calling on the Boy Scouts of America to accept an offer on its 255-acre Deer Lake property.

KILLINGWORTH, CT — Save the Sound is calling on the Connecticut Yankee Council of the Boy Scouts of America to take a $2.4 million offer for a 255-acre Deer Lake property and reject a $4.6 million offer from a private developer. The organization's $2.4 million offer represents market value for the property, according to a statement from Save the Sound.
“The actions of the Connecticut Yankee Council are counter to the Scouting mission, which is grounded in making ethical choices and being in service of others," Dave Anderson, Save the Sound campaigns manager, said in a statement. "When faced with a choice between the public good and self-interest, the leadership of the Connecticut Yankee Council seem to be choosing the latter. This is especially discouraging since, as a nonprofit organization, they have been off the tax rolls for six decades, since purchasing most of the property for $1 in 1963."
Save the Sound will said it work with local and statewide partners "to explore all avenues to secure a future for the Deer Lake property in which it can continue to be enjoyed by all Connecticut residents."
