PHOTOS: Devil's Hopyard State Park
Lush vegetation, cascading falls and local folklore characterize this East Haddam destination.
Tucked away in the Millington section of East Haddam, Devil's Hopyard State Park is a 860-acre property that includes a plethora of hiking trails and camping spots encompassed by spectacular natural beauty. The main draw of the park is Chapman Falls, dropping more than sixty feet as it crashes its way over a series of steps in what is referred to as a Scotland Schist stone formation.
Local lore tells tales of witches covens, gigantic steps of the devil and even a man named Dibble who grew hops for making beer on the property.
Devil's Hopyard makes a great staycation spot to pack a picnic, do some hiking and even campout. Don't forget to bring your camera and pack the bug spray!
