So, what is Ray of Light Farm?

As humans, we are often known to think that all members of the animal kingdom are inferior to us. In fact, we not only have the ability to cognitively outwit the animal kingdom, we also have a means with which we can measure our intellectual superiority through IQ testing and this has not helped with our superiority complex one bit!

Ironically though, despite our believed intellectual superiority over animals, we are yet to find a better substitute for our four legged friends when it comes to relieving stress, creating happiness and easing boredom. So why is it, that animals can be treated so badly when they have so much to offer every one of us?

Ray of Light Farm, in East Haddam, CT is a Non-Profit Horse and Donkey rescue and animal-assisted therapy center. It offers a whole host of treats, including; schooling shows, wine tasting, animal assisted therapy and of course animal rescue.

Animal Rescue.

Although Ray of Light Farm is known as a Horse and Donkey rescue center, the truth is that the center actually rescues a whole range of animals. Many of the animals that are rescued have had a hard start in life, as we rescue and care for neglected, injured, discarded or abused animals.

We are proud to be able to offer all of our animals a safe, secure and relaxing environment so that they can live out the rest of their lives healthy, happy and loved. At the moment we have many happy animals, including; Horses, Donkeys, Sheep, Goats, Ducks, Llama and many more!

Animal-assisted therapy

Animal-assisted therapy is a type of therapy that involves using animals as a form of treatment. Through AAT, it is possible to improve a person’s social, emotional or cognitive functioning. This is why, at Ray of Light, we love nothing more than bringing animals and people together.

What else is on offered at Ray of Light Farm?

· Tiny Trotters (register ahead) – Best suited for ages 18months to 6 years. Kids will tour the farm, feed the guinea pigs, listen to a story, enjoy craft time and finish with a Pony ride! Early summer starting June 16th and 19th. Late summer begins July 20th and 24th. The sessions are four weeks and cost $50.

10am – 11:45am

· Filly Night (register ahead) – For adult women who want to get back into riding or even want to try it for the first time. You will groom and tack the Horses and take part in a group lesson. $20 and bring a dish. There is a potluck get together after riding. June 9th and 25th starts at 7pm.

· Pony Pals (register ahead) – Learn the basics of gardening, feed and water the farm animals and learn the first steps to horse back riding. During Week 1 you will groom the Horses, week 2 you will learn to lead the Horses and week 3 you will ride the Horse and learn to use the reigns. $45 for 3 weekly sessions. June 19th, June 26th and July 3rd.
