Route 82 Connector Work Moves Along
Alternating lane closures on the connector will remain in effect.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is rebuilding a portion of the Route 82 connector in Haddam, which carries traffic to Route 9, to correct “undermining and settlement” of the roadway near a corrugated metal pipe culvert that carries Roaring Brook beneath Route 8.
Route 82 experienced settlement, or a shifting of the road surface, in May of 2010, which prompted the DOT to temporarily close the road for about a week. During that time, a section of the roadway was temporarily stabilized so that it could be reopened to traffic. The DOT is currently working on plans to provide a more permanent repair to the entire roadway width and return it to its original lane configuration.
The work, which includes occassional lane closures and lane shifts, started in the spring and is expected to be completed in August. The road work will be conducted in stages, allowing the road to remain open to traffic in both directions during the entire process. However, alternating one way traffic will be in effect Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The project consists of replacing backfill materials adjacent to the existing culvert, which has developed sinkholes.
