UPDATE: Search for Robert Masci Continues

Residents are urged to walk their properties and check any outbuildings.

The search for missing East Haddam resident, Bob Masci of Boardman Road, continues. The search began at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening when his wife reported Masci missing after he did not return home from an afternoon walk. Line searches, foot patrols, roadside patrols and an overnight search utilizing 6 thermal-imaging cameras and night-vision goggles have been employed in the search over the last 28-plus hours.

Rescue operations are staged out of the East Haddam Firehouse Company #2 on William F. Palmer Road in Moodus. The search teams include members of the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team (CERT), along with crews from the East Haddam Police and Fire Departments, the East Haddam Ambulance, the CT State Police and K-9 teams, helicopters from both the state police and Coast Guard, CT Search and Rescue, Civil Air Patrol, fire departments from several nearby towns and dozens of East Haddam citizens.

Emergency Management Director Craig Mansfield, along with First Selectman Mark Walter and Fire Chief Don Angersola are leading the rescue efforts.

CT Incident Management Team, Region 4, has been providing radio communications support throughout the search with an onsite mobile unit; the unit plans to remain onsite until tomorrow.

As of 6:30 p.m. tonight, the road searches are being scaled back for the safety of the volunteers and others and will resume at 7 a.m. tomorrow, if necessary.

In the meantime, Mansfield issued a town-wide alert asking residents to walk their property and check any out-buildings for Bob Masci. Bob is a 68-year-old white male described as being 6 ft tall and weighing 180 lbs. He is bald on the top of his head with brown hair on the sides and was last seen wearing blue jeans, grey sneakers and a bright aqua colored sweatshirt. Bob also wears glasses. Should you see him or have any information, please call Troop K in Colchester at 860-537-7500.

Other volunteers on-site include members of the First Church of Christ Congregational who manned the kitchen to feed rescue workers and volunteers since Wednesday morning. Village Pizza, Gristmill Market, Gingerbread Daycare, Haddam Elementary School staff, Westchester Market and West Side Market (Colchester) are among those who donated pizza, grinders, soup, soda, coffee and donuts to volunteers.
