State Approves Grant For Killingworth Baseball Field Project
The state has approved $500,000 for improvements to the baseball diamond at Auer Park.

KILLINGWORTH, CT — The State Bond Commission has approved $500,000 for improvements to a baseball diamond at Auer Park in Killingworth, according to a statement from State Rep. Christine Goupil, (D-Clinton/Killingworth/Westbrook).
"Upgrades to the baseball field at Auer Park are long overdue and I am proud to have worked closely with town leaders to get this grant approved," Goupil said in a statement. "Our community will soon see a new and improved field for sports and recreation. The updated facility will improve the quality of life for Killingworth residents, and I want to thank the Governor and Bond Commission members for today's approval."
"We are so excited about this funding which will enable us to complete a project begun not just one decade ago, but many," said Killingworth First Selectwoman Catherine Iino. "Killingworth fought long and hard to create outdoor recreational facilities to serve all of our residents. Fifteen years ago, we began a project to replace overused, badly worn playing fields and expand the number of available facilities. The last phase of the long-range plan was to build what would be Killingworth’s only full-size baseball field. Funding was scarce, however, and the project was put on hold. Over the last several years, interest in all sports has been increasing, and a full-size baseball field will round out the options for outdoor sports in our town. We are so grateful to State Representative Christine Goupil and State Senator Christine Cohen for their support of this project, and to all the officials who made this dream a reality."
