State High School Softball Champions Honored:

Nathan Hale-Ray High School Varsity Softball players were recognized recently for their team effort.

East Haddam honored their 2011 State Softball Championship team, complete with emcee, school officials and coaching legends, during a banquet at the town’s picturesque Gelston House along the shore of the Connecticut River Tuesday night.

The night belonged to the 18 members of the Nathan Hale-Ray High School Varsity Softball team, the team’s score keeper, their coach and the two assistant coaches.

With humility, Coach Sue Miner thanked a myriad of folks for facilitating this team to victory. She thanked the Little Noises Athletic Boosters Club for putting together the banquet, The Gelston House for hosting the hometown team, her two assistant coaches Jen Ingalls and Paige Henninger, the Junior Varisity coach Bridget Dean, and the team’s score keeper, Peter Sipples.  Emotions began to show as Coach Miner recounted how amazed she was at her team’s strength and fortitude; how they pressed on against unbelievable odds and managed the incredible come-backs needed to proceed to the Championship game.

One by one she introduced her players and praised each for their individual contributions as players received a trophy and Championship Team Jackets.  A new banner for the school gym was unveiled announcing that this team received the Connecticut High School Coaches Association #1 Team Award.  Pride was evident throughout the room as parents and honored guests stood to give the team a well deserved standing ovation.

Before heading off for group photos the team presented Coach Miner with her own plaque and read a Proclamation from the State Assembly praising the team for their 2011 Championship win.
