Teen Seriously Injured in Accident Visits Haddam Firefighters

A teenager lost control of his car and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He has no recollection of the accident.

In August of this year, Clinton teenager Joe Casagrande lost control of his vehicle on a rainy evening and crashed into a tree near the intersection of Killingworth Road and Hidden Lake Road in Higganum.

“Haddam firefighters extricated him from the vehicle and with the help of Haddam Volunteer Ambulance personnel, Joe was promptly taken to Hartford Hospital,” the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company said via Facebook. “He suffered from a broken pelvis, hip and tailbone, and currently has minor nerve damage in his foot. Joe has no recollection of the accident. After a short stay in the hospital, Joe returned to school, where he is completing his senior year.”

Joe and his mother, Susan Casagrande, visited the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company on Monday, Oct. 12, to thank the firefighters and make a donation to the company.

“Thank you,” his mother Susan said. “Without you, I don’t know if he’d be standing here today.”
