Water management is a key factor in growing beautiful
flowering plants and reaping mounds of edibles. Too little water dehydrates; too much drowns plants.
When it's hot and dry and plants droop, most know to reach for the garden hose or watering can. Potted plants often require daily watering, especially when they are exposed to hot, baking sun. When there's a good rainfall you can almost hear plants say Ahhh as their roots soak in rain water.
But don't ignore container-grown plants during rainy periods. Rain water collects in saucers under pots and in containers without a drain hole. Left to sit in water-logged soil, the roots of most potted plants will rot.

Rotted roots means dead plants. Save your plants from a
drowning demise by draining rainwater from saucers and pots. Then hold off watering potted plants again until the top inch of soil in each pot is dry.
