Animal-Assisted Therapy Program for Veterans Coming to Ray of Light Farm

Animal assisted therapy program designed for veterans coming to East Haddam this summer.

Ray of Light Farm, an animal rescue and animal-assisted therapy center in East Haddam, is introducing Horse Feathers, a new program for veterans. Horse Feathers will be led by Dave Bradham, a PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) certified driving instructor and mentor with over 50 years of experience. This program is geared toward veterans who may be struggling with PTSD, however all veterans are welcome to participate as clients or as volunteers. Clients will have the opportunity to learn about cart and wagon driving, harnessing, ground driving, horse evaluation, and emergency procedures. Equine
therapy is a valuable resource in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Ray of Light Farm has always focused on pairing animals and humans in ways that improve the physical and emotional well-being of both; Horse Feathers promises to continue in that tradition.

To kick the program off and raise the necessary funds for equipment such as driving wagons with easy entry and exits, clearing driving trails, and adding seasonal structures to ensure year round program availability, the farm is hosting a charity dinner at the Gelston House in East Haddam. The event will be held on Saturday, April 2nd with keynote speaker Michael McDermott, president of Arcadia Group, a management and executive coaching firm. Since 2011, one of his primary areas of focus has been the Blackstone Veterans Initiative which he started and continues to lead. Michael has also worked as a consultant and blueprint designer for the First Lady's "Joining Forces" initiative.

Tickets are $125 and include dinner, wine and entertainment. Go to www.rayoflightfarm.org for more information or to purchase tickets.

Ray of Light Farm is a non-profit horse and donkey rescue and animal-assisted
therapy center dedicated to helping animals and inspiring people.
