EAST LYME, CT — The Zoning Commission approved three land use applications and denied two others during its June 18 meeting, including rejecting proposals for a dog park and a zoning amendment that would have allowed storage facilities in the Commercial Area zone.

The commission approved a special permit for Peter Iffland to remove and replace a tidal marsh dock on property opposite 100R Old Black Point Road under the town's zoning regulations governing tidal marsh docks.

Commissioners also approved a special permit for Olympic Taekwondo Academy of East Lyme to operate an indoor recreation facility at 170 Flanders Road, Unit D10. The application was submitted by Kyeong Yoou Hyeon under Section 8.2.1 of the zoning regulations.

In a separate action, the commission approved a Coastal Area Management site plan submitted by Miroslaw Pienkos to demolish an existing structure and construct a new single-family home at 8 Billow Road in Niantic.

The commission denied an application submitted by Jerry Lokken on behalf of East Lyme Parks & Recreation for a special permit to construct a fenced dog park and associated parking area on Roxbury Road. The proposal involved property identified as Assessor's Map 15.0, Lot 8.

Commissioners also denied an application from James Quill seeking a text amendment to the zoning regulations that would have permitted storage facilities in the Commercial Area zone by special permit with additional controls.

The actions were taken during the commission's June 18 meeting at East Lyme Town Hall.
