Lyme Selectpeople Discuss Mutual Aid Agreement, Hamburg Cove Invasive Plant Research

Lyme selectpeople discussed mutual aid with Old Lyme, invasive plant research, board appointments and regional vacancies.

LYME, CT — The Lyme Board of Selectpeople discussed a proposed mutual aid agreement with Old Lyme, upcoming state hydrilla research in Hamburg Cove and several board appointments during its July 20 meeting.

The board unanimously approved the minutes of its July 6 meeting after a motion by Selectman Tom St. Louis and a second by Selectman John Kiker.

During public comment, resident R. Keel spoke about the Grassy Hill Church bell ringing. The minutes also note that the bell at Town Hall is in working order.

The board appointed Anthony Irving as a regular member and Regan Stacy as an alternate member of the Eight Mile River Wild and Scenic Coordinating Committee.

Under other business, board members said the town is seeking a representative for River Valley Transit and an alternate representative for the Connecticut River Gateway Commission. They also reported that the RiverCOG Regional Housing committee was scheduled to review its housing report with the town that week.

Board members also announced that the state plans to conduct research into hydrilla, an invasive aquatic plant, in Hamburg Cove from Aug. 10 through November. According to the minutes, researchers will place 4-foot yellow rings in the cove to collect data.

The board also discussed a proposed draft mutual aid agreement with Old Lyme that would focus on school safety, major incidents at public events such as the Hamburg Fair and potential evacuations.
