The arrest comes following "a lengthy financial crime investigation," police said.

Mattox was the CEO of Birk Industries, which is listed as a flexible heating element manufacturer at 14 Capitol Drive.

While in that role, Mattox "unlawfully used company financial accounts, including a company credit card and checking account, resulting in the alleged theft of a substantial amount of company funds," police said.

Mattox was unable to post the court-set $100,000 bond. He was taken to the New London Judicial District Courthouse for arraignment. He was then remanded to the custody of the Judicial Marshal Service.
