Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus In Old Lyme

OLD LUME, CT — Mosquitoes collected in Old Lyme tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to the Ledge Light Health District.

"This is not unexpected but is a good reminder for us all to take steps to protect ourselves, our families and our community from mosquitoes," the district wrote.

Health officials had the following advice for residents to avoid mosquito bites:

• reducing time outside at dusk and dawn
• covering skin with clothing
• checking window screens and doors
• using mosquito repellent when you have to be outside

Residents can also reduce mosquitoes around their property by:

• removing standing water
• cleaning clogged gutters
• cleaning, chlorinating and covering pools
• using landscaping to eliminate areas where water collects
