OLD LYME, CT — East Lyme voters will decide whether to spend cannabis tax revenue on streetscape improvements, Old Lyme holds a town meeting to fill a school board seat, and a 48-unit housing proposal goes before East Lyme's wetlands agency this week.

1. East Lyme Town Meeting On $46K In Cannabis Tax For Streetscapes
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 7 p.m.
Where: Upper Meeting Room, East Lyme Town Hall, 108 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic
What to know: A special town meeting will consider appropriating $46,000 in local cannabis tax revenue to pay for streetscape improvements around town, according to the town's notice. The Board of Selectmen meets right after. Its agenda includes possible action on submitting the town's plan for automated traffic enforcement safety devices to the state Department of Transportation, a presentation by the East Lyme Ambulance Fund, a purchasing policy and discussion of Cini Dock leases. 2. Old Lyme Town Meeting To Fill Region 18 School Board Seat
When: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6 p.m.
Where: Auditorium, Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School, 53 Lyme St., Old Lyme
What to know: Old Lyme voters will elect a successor to W. Scott Brown on the Regional School District 18 Board of Education, to serve until the next municipal election in November 2027. Only Old Lyme registered voters may vote on the item, according to the warning signed by the Board of Selectmen. The night before, on Monday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Town Hall, the Old Lyme selectmen will hear a presentation from Joseph Barr, Amtrak's senior director of state partnerships and development for the East, on Amtrak's capacity planning study.

3. 48-Unit Flanders Road Plan Goes Before East Lyme Wetlands Agency
When: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m.
Where: Upper-Level Conference Room 1, East Lyme Town Hall, 108 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic
What to know: The Inland Wetlands Agency opens a public hearing on an application from 283 BPR LLC to demolish a house at 235 Flanders Road and build a six-building, 48-unit residential development at 225 and 235 Flanders Road. The plans include a paved driveway, a parking lot, utilities and stormwater management. Public hearings that must close that night cover Oz Enterprises LLC's 13-lot subdivision road at Mayfield Terrace and a single-family home on Corey Lane in Niantic.

4. PAWtoberfest At The Old Lyme Animal Shelter
When: Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Old Lyme Animal Shelter, 3 Machnik Drive, Old Lyme
What to know: The shelter's PAWtoberfest features the Cafe Laurel food truck, serving pulled pork, mac and cheese, vegan chili, cornbread, coffee and hot chocolate. The Sunny Sips beverage truck will have lemonade and cream sodas. There will also be live music from The Zephyr Band and local vendors, according to the town.

5. Two Land Trust Walks On Wednesday
When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 9:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.
Where: Saunders Preserve, Honey Hill Road, East Haddam (morning); Mile Creek Preserve, 191 Mile Creek Road, Old Lyme (afternoon)
What to know: In the morning, Lyme Open Space Coordinator Wendy Hill and Cameron Beard of the East Haddam Land Trust lead a two-mile walk, from 9:30 to about 11:30, at Saunders Preserve. The preserve sits atop the Honey Hill Fault and likely contains Native American stoneworks, according to the town of Lyme. The trails are moderate dirt paths with some inclines. Register by emailing openspace@townlyme.org; the walk is canceled in bad weather. In the afternoon, the Old Lyme Open Space Commission and Old Lyme Land Trust guides lead a one-hour hike at Mile Creek Preserve starting at 4:15 p.m., followed by a happy hour at the Old Lyme Inn.
