Car Smashes Into East Lyme Business; Worker Injured

A woman who worked at the business was temporarily trapped until firefighters freed her.

Two people were sent to the hospital after a car hit the front facade of the Charter Oak Walk-in Medical Center, located on Flanders Road.

According to The Day, a woman who worked at the clinic was sitting at her desk near the window when a car reportedly went over the curb and struck the structure.

Firefighters removed bricks and a portion of the wall and were able to assist the employee, who was trapped after the accident.

The employee and the driver of the car were transported to the hospital via ambulance. State Trooper Sgt. Wilfred Blanchette told The Day the driver mentioned brake failure.

The accident remains under investigation.
