Construction Worker Critically Injured In East Lyme Highway Accident
An investigation into the accident is underway, officials said.
EAST LYME, CT — A construction worker is hospitalized following an accident on Interstate 95 Thursday morning.
Eva Zymaris, a spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Transportation, said the individual is a private construction worker.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is investigating the incident, according to Zymaris.

East Lyme Fire Chief William Bundy said emergency personnel were summoned to the scene at 10:11 a.m.
The accident happened in the vicinity of New Frontage Road and I-95 southbound, near the exit 74 offramp, according to Bundy.

The worker, a 54-year-old man, was trapped in concrete barriers, and he had to be extricated.
The man was initially taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
No one else was injured in the accident, according to Bundy.
Officials have not yet released the victim’s name.
