The group was greeted by cheering family and friends on Wednesday.

The men and women of a Connecticut National Guard unit from Niantic, stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for nearly a year, returned to the state Wednesday and were greeted by cheering family and friends.

The Day reports that the soldiers, more than 50 of them, arrived at the Windsor Locks Army Aviation Readiness Center. They are part of the 192nd Military Police Battalion.

“The success of the 192nd Military Police was built upon a set of skills honed right here in Connecticut, thanks to the commitment of the men and women who answered the nation’s call,” Maj. Gen. Thaddeus J. Martin, Adjutant General and commander of the Connecticut National Guard, said in a statement, as reported by The Day. “We are very proud of everything the unit accomplished while mobilized to Cuba.”
