Drug Take Back Day 2023: East Lyme, Old Lyme Participating

Here's where and when you can drop off unwanted prescription drugs in East Lyme and Old Lyme this year.

EAST LYME, CT — National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, Oct. 28, and the East Lyme Police Department and Lyme Youth Services Bureau are participating. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Lyme Police Department at 277 W. Main St. in Niantic.

You can also drop off unwanted prescriptions at to the Old Lyme Fire House at 69 Lyme St. during the same time frame.

This is a free event for communities nationwide to properly dispose of old and unneeded medications safely and anonymously.

The semiannual event by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration allows for residents to drop off unwanted prescriptions to keep narcotics and other substances from being abused.

The event also has an environmental purpose, keeping substances from being dumped down toilets or thrown into landfills.

The most recent take back event held in April included close to 5,000 drop sites across the nation. The DEA estimates it took in about 332 tons of unwanted or expired drugs at the April event alone.
