EAST LYME, CT — East Lyme has chosen to ban nonresidents from the town's beaches beginning Memorial Day weekend, The Day reported. The move is intended to allow for the beaches to remain open during the pandemic while still avoiding crowds and allowing for social distancing.

The Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously in favor of the measure at a Monday virtual meeting. The decision is not permanent and could be lifted if social distancing measures loosen, according to The Day.

The move applies to three East Lyme beaches: McCook’s Point Park & Beach, Hole-in-the-Wall Beach and Niantic Bay Beach at Cini Park.
