PhRMA partnered with the East Lyme Giving Garden to bring this vital funding to local students.
Student volunteers at the Giving Garden learn about sound and sustainable growing methods
focusing on regenerative soil practices and the benefits of developing healthy eating habits for
individuals and the community. This educational grant will support age-appropriate STEM
educational activities offered for students in grades K-12. This past year, the garden hosted field
trips with the environmental students at the East Lyme High School and Flanders Elementary
School students. The grant will support the Giving Garden’s goal to educate and inspire people
of all ages to understand better the environmental and food issues our world faces and how
regenerative farming is part of the solution.
Representative Holly Cheeseman said, “Providing children of all ages with hands-on learning
opportunities is so critical for their development. STEM programming for kids encourages
creativity and interest in science and math, while building 21st century skills. The East Lyme
Giving Garden exposes kids to real-world skills through STEM programming focused on
gardening, agriculture, healthy eating, the microbiome and more. I am so grateful to the entire
team of staff and volunteers at the Giving Garden for their work.”

United States to be a leader in innovation, particularly in the fight to combat COVID-19.
Programs like this are an excellent way for students to develop an interest in STEM careers.
PhRMA is proud to support the East Lyme Giving Garden and their commitment to offering
students quality STEM education opportunities,” said Jasmine Gossett, PhRMA.
