East Lyme, Ledyard PDs Warn Residents Of 'Verizon' Scam

Some people in the area have recently received fake calls supposedly from the communications company.

EAST LYME, CT — Police officials in Ledyard and East Lyme are warning residents of a scam involving fake calls from someone pretending to be with Verizon.

The calls state that there is a supposed problem with the customer's account and it will be suspended unless they call back or make a payment.

"Apparently, the number that shows on caller ID is in fact Verizon," wrote Ledyard police in a Facebook post that was shared by East Lyme police. "Verizon has confirmed that this is NOT coming from them!! Don't fall for this scam... if a scammer can access your phone, much fraudulent damage can be done."
