East Lyme Native John McDonald Retires from Major League Baseball
McDonald was regarded as one of the best defensive infielders in the game.

East Lyme’s John McDonald, 40, called it a career this week announcing he is retiring from Major League Baseball after a stellar 16-year career.
McDonald, who spent seven years with the Toronto Blue Jays also played with the Cleveland Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Los Angeles Angels. McDonald graduated from East Lyme High School in 1974.
McDonald was described as a fan favorite, who was a brilliant defensive infielder, and a pillar in the community he played in, reports John Lott, of the National Post.

Many people remember McDonald’s 2010 Father’s Day home run, which he hit a few days after his father passed away, Lott reports. McDonald was not known for his offensive prowess as a batter and home runs were exceedingly rare.

McDonald will not be retired for long, as he already has received numerous offers to work with baseball teams including the Blue Jays.
