East Lyme, Other Communities Continue Negotiations for Regional Animal Shelter

The proposed shelter would be at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Facility in Uncasville.

East Lyme, CT - Officials from East Lyme, Montville and Waterford are continuing to negotiate with state officials to put a regional animal shelter at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Facility in Uncasville, but the proposal is hitting some hurdles.

The Day reports that attorneys for the state Department of Corrections are voicing concerns that the three communities might not be able to adequately fund such a facility at the site.

Essentially, the towns want assurances from the state that they will be able to build at the prison, and the state wants assurances over money upfront. Without the state's assurances, however, the towns can't develop a specific plan because they don't know what might be allowed.
