East Lyme Police Investigate Incident Involving 2 Stolen Cars

Two stolen cars fled from police in an incident early Monday morning.

EAST LYME, CT — East Lyme police are investigating after a pursuit involving two stolen vehicles. Police received a 911 call from Smith Street in Niantic at 2:34 a.m. Monday reporting that individuals from two vehicles were checking car doors.

When the caller yelled to them, they fled. Police spotted the vehicles a short while later fleeing a parking lot on Main Street at a high rate of speed.

The vehicles traveled into Waterford at an extremely high rate of speed. Police then discontinued attempts to stop the vehicles for safety reasons.

Police learned that one of the vehicles had been stolen from the Crescent Beach neighborhood, while the other vehicle was reported stolen from Wallingford.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police wrote in a Facebook post: "We urge residents to call police when you observe suspicious behavior, and always lock your vehicles, secure valuables and keys/FOBS away from the vehicle."
