East Lyme To Receive $837K In Grants For Broadband Internet

EAST LYME, CT — East Lyme is among the towns receiving a total of $28 million in grants to expand broadband infrastructure, according to a statement from Gov. Ned Lamont.

SNET in East Lyme will receive $837,400 for 53 locations.

A total of 88 cities and towns in the state, including 26 on the state’s Distressed Municipalities list, will benefit from the grants under this initial round.

The grants come via Connecticut’s portion of the federal American Rescue Plan Act's Capital Project Fund dollars, designed to support access to high-speed internet by funding infrastructure projects with the goal of universal access to affordable, resilient, and reliable broadband.

“The expansion of broadband infrastructure will make Connecticut’s towns and cities stronger, more resilient, and better positioned to engage in today’s increasingly digitized world,” Lamont said in a statement. “Awarding these funds is a critical step in the crucial push to make broadband more widely available.”

The grant money is distributed via the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's ConneCTed Communities Grant Program.
