Essex Meadows Team Members, Residents Detail Cars to Help Fund Education
20 team members and residents at retirement community raise more than $1,500 for college scholarships. In all, $139,000 awarded this year.

Ever thought that driving around in a clean car could have a connection to education? Residents and team members at Essex Meadows have, and that’s why they helped organize a fundraising car wash in June. Team members and residents at the retirement community spent an afternoon in the sun washing cars to raise scholarship funds for area students. The annual car wash event is one of the many ways the retirement community raises money for the Essex Meadows Scholarship Foundation, which awards scholarships to students who have worked at the community and to the children of current employees.
This year alone they awarded $139,000 to 40 recipients. Since its inception in 1993, the Scholarship Foundation has donated more than $1.2 million as a way to give back and foster a culture of excellence and achievement in the Essex area.
The car wash took place the second week of June at Essex Meadows, located at 30 Bokum Road in Essex. More than 20 residents and team members participated. They washed and vacuumed more than 70 cars, raising $1,530 total, with all proceeds going toward the scholarship fund.
