Staff and patrons at the Lyme Public Library are mourning the passing of Emma, the resident cat at the Library. She was 15 years old and passed away on Thursday, February 27. She had been at the Library for 11 years arriving in February 2003.
Emma came from a shelter. It didn’t take long for her to settle in and become very popular in the community. People from Lyme and all over the country would stop in to visit her. She had her own email and Twitter accounts and had Twitter followers from as far away as India. She was featured in Cat Fancy Magazine in 2010 and was chosen as Library Journal’s very first Library Cat of the Month in June 2013.
She will be missed most for being a sweet natured, friendly cat that brought joy and comfort to many people in the community. A future memorial to Emma is planned on the grounds of the new Lyme Public Library building which is currently under construction.
