Former Niantic Fire Chief Arrested On Larceny Charge: Report
The former chief abruptly resigned from the post in December.
EAST LYME, CT — Steve Wargo, the former Niantic Fire Chief who resigned in December, has been arrested on a charge of first-degree larceny in connection with an investigation into alleged misappropriation of town money, reports NBC Connecticut.
Wargo is accused of stealing nearly $2,400 over a 17-month period by allegedly billing the town for hours he didn't work, writes The Day.
The town launched an investigation into alleged payroll discrepancies last year, according to East Lyme First Selectman Mark Nickerson, and turned over documents to the East Lyme Police Department for review.
