UPDATE: Police Investigating Human Remains in East Lyme

Police said in a recent social media post that the investigation is still ongoing.

EAST LYME, CT – Troopers and detectives worked throughout Monday to figure out how human remains ended up in an East Lyme residential area.

At approximately 6:51 a.m., the partial remains of a human skull were located adjacent to Van Winkle Way, according to a release. East Lyme Police officers and state troopers responded to the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified and also sent an investigator to the scene to assist. Detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad later responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During a search of the wooded area near to Sleepy Hollow Road, detectives discovered more skeletal remains. The remains were then taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington to determine the cause of death.

Investigators are also hoping for possible identification to be determined through dental records. Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
