EAST LYME, CT – The Board of Selectmen made <a href="http://www.theday.com/local/20161102/east-lyme-selectmen-approve-ordinance-for-independent-police-force" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">what was dubbed a "historic vote" Thursday</a> that will move the town towards an independent police force, The Day reported.  An ordinance was approved by the board that will <a href="http://www.theday.com/local/20161102/east-lyme-selectmen-approve-ordinance-for-independent-police-force" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">establish a Board of Police Commissioners</a>, according to The Day. This police-focused board will then be responsible for selecting a police chief and setting policies for the entire force.  The ordinance is expected to <a href="http://www.theday.com/local/20161102/east-lyme-selectmen-approve-ordinance-for-independent-police-force" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">go in effect on Nov. 15 of this year</a>, The Day reported.
