Independent Police Force Ordinance Approved by East Lyme Board of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen made a "historic vote" towards an independent police force for the town.

EAST LYME, CT – The Board of Selectmen made what was dubbed a “historic vote” Thursday that will move the town towards an independent police force, The Day reported.
An ordinance was approved by the board that will establish a Board of Police Commissioners, according to The Day. This police-focused board will then be responsible for selecting a police chief and setting policies for the entire force.
The ordinance is expected to go in effect on Nov. 15 of this year, The Day reported. East Lyme’s decision follows other nearby towns’ move towards establishing independent police forces.
