Man Charged In Accidental Gunshot Incident In Old Lyme: Police

An Old Sayrbook man is facing charges after a man was injured by gunfire in Old Lyme, according to police.

OLD LYME, CT — One person was injured and a man was arrested following an accidental gunshot injury at an Old Lyme home Saturday night, according to police. Troop F in Westbrook responded to a reported gunshot injury at a home on Portland Avenue Extension at 7:18 p.m.

Police said that Jordan Rehberg, 31, of Old Saybrook, was clearing his handgun at a dining room table with other adults seated nearby when it accidentally fired, injuring one of the people at the table. The victim sustained injuries to both hands and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Two juveniles were "allegedly nearby" when the gun went off, according to police.

Rehberg was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, second-degree assault, two counts of risk of injury to a child, and second reckless endangerment.

He was later released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on April 13.
