Man Charged With Possessing Stolen Gun: Police

A man is facing gun charges after a motor vehicle stop in East Lyme.

EAST LYME, CT — A man is facing gun charges after he was pulled over in East Lyme on Saturday, according to police. Vershaun Thomas, 20, of New Britain, was charged with failure to carry a pistol permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, fifth-degree larceny, and stealing a firearm.

Police said that they pulled over a car at Flanders and Damon Heights road at 1:45 a.m. Saturday. Officer had previously attempted to stop the car at a Citgo gas station in Niantic but it drove away when police pulled in.

When police approached the car, they spotted the grip of a pistol in the front pants pocket of the passenger, Thomas. He was taken into custody.

Police said investigation found that the gun was reported stolen in New London in 2005.
