Man Sentenced for Robbing Old Lyme Bank on Bicycle, Demanding Money with Note Written in Crayon
The suspect allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle and left the bank with about $14,000.

OLD LYME, CT - A Groton man who robbed an Old Lyme bank on a bicycle has been sentenced to five years in prison, the New London Day reported.
Herman “Butchie” Smith, 40, received his sentence Wednesday for robbing the Old Lyme branch of Webster Bank in September 2015, according to the New London Day. He allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle and left the bank with about $14,000.
Court documents said the suspect gave the teller a white trash bag and a note written in purple crayon that said “give me the money, no one gets hurt,” the New London Day reported. Smith said he does not remember the incident and was under the influence of drugs that day.
