STORM CLEANUP
East Lyme was hit pretty hard yesterday by wind that knocked down lots of trees and left downed branches everywhere . The Highway Department was out much of the night last night opening up roads and clearing branches from the sides of the pavement. Over the next few days, we will be continuing the process of making sure that all debris is out of the paved area, performing rough cleanup and putting together our clean up strategy. It is our intention to clean up debris along the edge of the road, but due to the volume of work ahead of us, this could take a number of weeks. If/when we do the cleanup, we would only be picking up tree debris along the edge of the road so we will not be entering people’s yards to grab debris. To help with the cleanup, we are asking residents if they can to bring branches and debris to the Transfer Station in their cars, pickup trucks or small trailers. Effective immediately, we will be waiving brush fees at our Transfer Station at 93 Roxbury Rd through next Saturday August 15, 2020. The waiving of fees for brush is only for residents with cars, pickups and/or small trailers but does not include contractor’s with dump trucks and rolloffs. The Transfer Station is open Tuesday thru Saturdays from 7:30am-2:30pm.
GARBAGE/RECYCLING PICKUP
Unfortunately we are having some mechanical issues with our garbage and recycling trucks and the wait time at the dumping facilities has been larger than normal so we are expecting to run behind today and maybe the next few days. We plan on having our drivers work late to try to get through their normal routes but please bear with us. If your recycling and/or garbage has not been picked up by the end of the day, please leave the cans at the street and we will get them as soon as we can. There is no need to call the office if your can is not picked up as we will know what neighborhoods we didn’t get to.
