New London Man Charged With Reckless Driving After Police Pursuit
A New London man was hospitalized and charged after police said he hit and toppled a light pole, and drove erratically in a slow-speed chase

EAST LYME, CT—After a car struck a light pole, knocking it to the ground, and then driving at a slow speed, albeit erratically while hitting guardrails and crossing over into an oncoming lane of traffic, East Lyme Police were finally able to safely stop the car driven by Daniel Jones, 54, of 265 Crystal Ave., in New London.
The slow-speed pursuit began Thursday afternoon when police got calls from motorists saying a car had just struck a light pole on Boston Post Road near the I-95 Southbound exit 75 off ramp. After hitting the post hard enough to topple it, the driver continued on Boston Post Road driving slowly but erratically.
An East Lyme Police officer found the vehicle traveling west on Route 1 and although they tried to stop it, the car kept going "striking guard rails, into the opposite lane and traveling off the roadway in multiple locations."
