Niantic Elementary School Eliminates Halloween Parade, Wearing of Costumes at School

The school cites increasing safety concerns among other things as justification for the decision.

NIANTIC, CT – Local elementary students may have to settle for just trick-or-treating with their parents this year, as one school has cancelled Halloween-themed festivities, Fox 61 reported.

Lillie B. Haynes School sent out a letter to parents Wednesday that this year’s Halloween parade will be cancelled, according to Fox 61. It furthermore said that the parade has been “eliminated,” as is the wearing of costumes in school.

The school sites increasing concerns for safety and not wanting any child to feel excluded as justification for the decision, Fox 61 reported. The school will still hold classroom celebrations, but with an autumn theme rather than a Halloween one.
