NJ Man Charged In Niantic Restaurant Oil Theft: Police

A New Jersey man was charged in connection with stealing grease and oil from a restaurant, according to police.

NIANTIC, CT — A New Jersey man was charged in connection with stealing grease and oil from a restaurant, according to police. Police observed a suspicious van in the area of a closed restaurant on High Street in Niantic at 6 a.m. Friday.

An officer made contact with the person operating the van, which had storage tanks and pumps in the vehicle's rear.

Jose Borgen-Reyes, 32, of Paterson, NJ was taken into custody without incident and transported to the East Lyme Police Department. He was charged with a single count of sixth-degree larceny.

His bond was set at $5,000.

Last week, two New York men were accused of stealing more than 1,000 gallons of cooking oil from restaurants in Old Saybrook, then leading police on a long chase on I-95 and crashing into another car.
