Obituary: Alice M. Gerber, 98, of Niantic

Niantic- Alice Miriam Gerber, 98 formerly of Niantic and one of the original residents of Laurel Hill Acres passed away on Tuesday October 25, 2016 at Greentree Manor & Rehabilitation Center, Waterford.

Alice was born in Queens, NY on April 15, 1918 the daughter of Arthur and Adelaide Sedlack Goebel. She was the wife of the late Clifford F. Gerber. They made there home in New Hyde Park, NY for 12 years before moving to Niantic.

She was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School and Brooklyn College, where she was an honor student.

Alice was a charter member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Old Saybrook where she sang in the choir, belonged to many groups and served as the church secretary/parish administrator until her retirement in 2005. Alice was active in the community, volunteering for many years with the Red Cross and served in many capacities with the East Lyme Art Council. She appeared in 25 shows with the Pfizer Players and was make-up mistress for over 20 years.

Alice is survived by her 2 sons, Rev. Clifford C. Gerber and his wife Merrie of Shrewsbury, MA and James A. Gerber and his wife Joanne of Waterford. She was" Grammy" to Stephanie(Dominic) Ruggiere, Christopher Gerber (Victoria Wilkinson) and Elizabeth (Theodore) Richmond and 4 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 29, 2016 at 10 O'clock at the St. Paul Lutheran Church 56 Great Hammock Rd. Old Saybrook. Interment will follow in East Lyme Cemetery, East Lyme. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home 48 Grand Street Niantic.
