Obituary: S​tephen W. Georgian, 87, of East Lyme

Stephen was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and later began a career of over 40 years as a chemist at Pfizer.

Stephen W. Georgian, 87, of East Lyme passed away on Thursday November 10 at his residence.

Mr. Georgian was born on August 8, 1929 in New York City the son of the late William and Helen Nellos Georgian. He was married to the late Bessie Chakonas on February 28, 1954 in New York. She passed away on May 31, 2007.

Stephen was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He then began a career of over 40 years as a chemist at Pfizer in Brooklyn and transferred to Groton in 1959.

Mr. Georgian was a long time member of the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church in New London. His survivors include three children Ellen Georgian of East Lyme, Stephanie Ashton and her husband Frederick of Waterford, William Georgian and his wife Katherine of Salem, six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Fred, Stephen, Kristina, Alexa, Stella and one great-grandson Peter.

He had also been predeceased by his sister Bessie Anton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Monday November 14 at the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead St, New London. His burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Niantic.There will be a visiting hour at the church from 10 to 11 am Monday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in his memory be directed to the St. Sophia Church.
