Old Lyme Police Officer Placed On Leave Pending Investigation

An Old Lyme police officer is on paid leave due to allegations that he used a racial slur, according to a report.

OLD LYME, CT — An Old Lyme police officer is on paid leave pending an investigation, The New London Day reported. One of the incidents under investigation involves the alleged use of a racial slur.

Jay Rankin was put on paid administrative leave Sept. 22. Rankin retired from the Old Saybrook Police Department in 2017 after 29 years of service.

Rankin is under investigation on allegations that he yelled a racial slur at a pedestrian on Main Street in Old Saybrook.
