Old Lyme Swimming Area Under Advising: Health District

The Ledge Light Health District has issued a swimming advisory for an Old Lyme lake.

OLD LYME, CT — An Old Lyme swimming area is under an advisory from the Ledge Light Health District. The district took initial bathing water samples Wednesday, Aug. 25 and found that Roger's Lake in Old Lyme was above the bacterial action levels set by the state.

Green Harbor Beach in New London also had an elevated bacterial count, but passed on resampling. Roger's Lake, however, was still at above the action level, so it remains under an advisory for swimming.

The district noted in a statement that rain or other contaminating events before the Wednesday morning sampling can lead to elevated bacterial counts, especially in bathing areas with storm water runoff from storm drainpipes and/or extensive impervious surfaces or low water turnover at inland bathing areas.
